Liam's Charcoal Drawings

Greetings, I’m Liam Shane Wallace. I grew up in my mother’s art room, watching her create with watercolors and many other media. Some of my best childhood memories are of sitting with my mum as she painted. Life wasn’t easy — she was an unwed Irish Catholic woman when I came into this world, and we were dirt poor for much of my youth — but I was rich in love and the beautiful worlds she brought to life on paper.

As a boy with little interest in art myself, I would steal away to her studio just to have her all to myself. I can still smell the clay-like blues, earthy reds, and sharp bite of varnish she used. I wish she could have seen the artist I became, but she passed when I was a young man. When I came home from the Army, our time together was painfully brief. For a long time afterward, art felt haunted without her, so I had run in the opposite direction. But eventually we are all called home. That early immersion and her joyous influence forged me into the artist I am today. When I draw, I talk to her. Now in my own art room filled with my kids, and each drawing feels like a catharsis — a ballad to my mum.

From my studio in Las Cruces, New Mexico, through The Black Clover Fine Arts, I craft realistic charcoal drawings by hand. Each piece is born from patience, precision, and a deep reverence for light and hand-craftsmanship. With over sixteen years of artistry and the discipline of service guiding my hand, I transform memories, stories, and visions into rich, breathing works of charcoal and paper.
