NUMBING CREAMS

Tattoos can be a bit painful, and we totally get that not everyone loves that part of the experience! While numbing creams have become popular, it's crucial to know that not all products are safe. We've seen a clear link between topical numbing creams and tougher healing processes. It's important to understand that lidocaine can interfere with your body's defenses, increasing the risk of infection, and can even lead to serious issues like lidocaine poisoning. This risk is heightened in areas with poor circulation or for clients with compromised circulation, even with proper application. Many states have already moved to make it illegal for body art practitioners to use over the counter lidocaine products during tattoo application without a prescription.

Be aware the market is saturated with knock-off numbing creams from unethical manufacturers, especially those found on Amazon or social media. Many of these have dangerously high levels of lidocaine, and can lead to lidocaine poisoning and rare, severe reactions.

Under most conditions they last maybe an hour and when they wear off you have no naturally built up pain tolerance. In the end, the temporary relief isn’t worth the potential risks! We’ve noticed that using these creams can dull color and slow down healing resulting in needing touch-ups. So in light of the risks we’ve decided to stop offering them and now refuse to work on clients that come in with it on. We prioritize your health and a vibrant healed tattoo. Let's keep your tattoo experience safe and beautiful!

PRE TATTOO PROCEDURE

The week before:

  • Drink water hydration matters

  • Eat well this will give your body the nutrients it needs to best prepare your immune system

  • Minimize stress.

The night before:

  • Get a good nights sleep

  • Avoid alcohol

  • Shower and gently exfoliate the area

  • Don't shave, allow your artist to shave the area for you to lessen the chance of shave irritation.

The day of:

  • Eat before you come

  • Skip your skin regime avoid lotions, sunscreens, and cosmetics

  • Wear comfy clothes that give the artist easy access to the area while maintaining your modesty (bikini tops, front buttoning tops, or nipple covers)

  • If you have a longer session bring water, snacks, a pillow, a comfort blanket, audible book, or movies with headphones.

  • Plus ones are always welcome but don't bring someone that will be a distraction or annoyance to you, your artist, or other patrons

  • Get a sitter for kids or pets; neither are allowed in the shop and you will be asked to reschedule if you show up with either

  • Give yourself enough time. Sometimes tattoos take longer than expected

  • Get in the correct headspace for your tattoo. Resign yourself to the possibility that it may be painful, the better you sit, the better the finished product and the quicker it goes.

AFTER CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Traditional Healing: 3 Times Daily

  • Wash your hands

  • Use your bare hands only no washcloths or scrubbers (friction is bad for healing)

  • Use a mild unscented soap and lukewarm water. Do not use antibacterial or surgical soap this kills good bacteria also and allows bad bacteria to grow unchecked.

  • Rinse well

  • Pat dry with clean paper towel not the same towel you dry your butt off with after a shower

  • Apply a thin coat of ointment

    • A&D ointment without Zinc

    • H2Ocean

Touch ups:
What are touch ups for?

Touch ups are not to freshen up your ink; they are to fix something that either didn't heal correctly or to give the artist a chance to finish or fix a technique that didn't render well in skin. While most tattoos don’t require a touch-up, we understand that the body's unique healing process can sometimes necessitate a little extra care. We're dedicated to providing that care because your tattoo is our best advertisement. If you think you need a touch-up or would like us to assess your healed tattoo, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Your first touch up is free after 3-4 weeks but within 4 months except for the following:

  • Tattoos to the hands, fingers, arch of foot, face, or elbow

  • Failure to follow proper aftercare procedures. (yes we can tell)

Although we are sympathetic to factors beyond our and possibly your control, free touch ups are on a case by case basis for the following:

  •  Impaired healing due to a medical condition

  • You have a reaction/infection from use of a product outside of our tattoo set up. This may include but is not limited to aftercare, numbing agents, medical dressings, exposure to animals or environment.

Most of these rules are not for the 98% and we have broken or bent them for many of our clients from time to time, because life happens. But they are needed to protect us from the flaky 2% that can not manage their adult lives or treat our profession like it's a hobby. And most of these policies should be common sense but due to the rise in Karenism and Chadolgy we unfortunately need to publish them.
