What Tattoo should I get and where do I put it? Most importantly, choose a tattoo that appeals to you as you will wear it for the rest of your life. Discuss details such as size colour and perhaps placement with the artist. When deciding on placement for your tattoo, consider aspects of your life such as profession etc. Also consider the pain factor; some areas of your body are more sensitive than others. Most studios have an extensive range of designs for you to choose from and many will allow you to bring your own.
How much are Tattoos? Prices of tattoos not only vary from one design to another but also from studio to studio. Some artists charge by the hour, others by the design. Factors such as colour, detail and size will affect the price.
Does it hurt? Pain is relative. Individuals have varying pain thresholds and tattoo placement will also affect the pain factor. There is of course a certain amount of pain involved and although difficult to describe, most people compare it to a stinging sensation. The pain is tolerable and ultimately, remember it is pain with a purpose.
How will I know if a Tattoo Studio is Hygienic?
Consider the following tattoo safety checklist:
-
New needles in use for each customer.
-
New disposable ink pot in use for each customer.
-
Artist must wear disposable latex gloves
-
Studio should have clean & hygienic appearance
-
Autoclave sterilisation should be in use within the studio.
-
Feel free to ask about the sterilisation equipment
-
Most professional tattooists will have no hesitation in answering any of queries
relating to hygiene standards within the studio.
Can I drink before I get a tattoo? It is strongly advisable to refrain from drinking alcohol prior to getting your tattoo. Not only does alcohol affect your ability to make an informed decision but it also thins your blood and can cause difficulties for the tattooing procedure itself.
How long does it take to heal? Healing periods vary amongst people and tattoo size. On average healing is complete within 2 weeks. During this time, you may experience itching and scabbing. It is important t to refrain from scratching the tattoo as this will damage the tattoo itself. Carefully follow the aftercare instructions given to you by the artist and use the recommended cream. It is also advisable to avoid sunbathing, saunas, swimming and sun beds during the healing process.
How long does it take to get a tattoo done? Again this depends on the size, detail and colour of the tattoo. Your tattooist will be able to give you an idea of the approximate time expected before he commences.
Can I change my tattoo or have it removed once I have it? Additions can be made to most tattoos but to cover one up with a new design usually requires a larger and darker tattoo than the original. Any professional tattoo artist will be able to advise you on cover ups. The other option of total removal requires laser treatment and can be quite costly. Your local cosmetic surgery clinic can advise you on this.
Can I bring my own design for a tattoo? Most studios will not have a problem with a customer designing their own tattoos. However, bear in mind that the design may need to be altered by the tattooist before it can be completed. Discuss this with your tattoo artist.
Can scars be tattooed over? In some cases it is possible to tattoo over a scar. This will require a consultation with the artist. |
